STORIES
Families We Serve
Every time we hand out a despensa, the families are so grateful to our donors and our volunteers for their gift. Here are some of their stories.
Thank you to all our donors and volunteers!
Muchas gracias!
Families We Serve In Santa Cruz
Today we visited two special residents in Santa Cruz, a small village near Chapala. During the deliveries of our despensas we met Domingo and Gloria.
Families We Serve In San Pedro
Kalie is one of 72 kidney patients who receive a weekly despensa from FoodBank. She also comes for a healthy afternoon meal in our meal program for children and her mother is one of our cooks for this program.
Families We Serve In San Nicolás
Ever wonder what happens during the despensa delivery? Join us as we follow along. We are going to deliver to about 60 families in San Nicholas, a small village east of Chapala on the shore of Lake Chapala.
Families We Serve In San Antonio
If you visit the charming square of San Antonio, there are many endearing sights and sounds familiar to a Mexican plaza: flowers blooming, children playing, dogs barking, the smell of a nearby taco stand, women shopping or neighbors catching up on news and gossip.
Families We Serve In Mezcala
Every week we hand out 20-40 dispenses of daily food, vegetables, and cleaning supplies to families that have little to no income. With COVID-19 measures in place, many simply haven’t been able to work anymore.
Families We Serve In Chapala
On a typical bustling Wednesday morning in Chapala, at a Surtido store, you will find the Foodbank Lakeside Chapala Local Coordinator, Sandra Arceli Flores Martinez, (below in denim) busy organizing a weekly despensa distribution. Chapala is the largest city served by Foodbank Lakeside, necessitating three despensa days.
Families We Serve In Ajijic
Every village serviced by Foodbank Lakeside differs in its needs and circumstances. Ajijic’s population is smaller and less impoverished and so, only 15 families were on the distribution list when we visited.
