Pet Food bank Lakeside
Pet Food Bank has been an independent partner of FoodBank Lakeside almost from the beginning. Pet Food Bank provides dog and cat food for the families that FBL serves. Pets are family!
Julie Wittmann, the founder of Pet Food Bank Lakeside, realized in the early days of the COVID pandemic that families were struggling to provide food not only for themselves but also for their pets. Before moving to Lakeside, Julie had experience in working for a pet food bank in Portland but was challenged to find the best way to get the food delivered here in our communities. Since part of FoodBank Lakeside’s intake process is to ask how many pets a family has, it was a good fit and a valued partnership was born.
Pet Food Bank Lakeside purchases the food in bulk and, with the help of their volunteer staff, they break it out into gallon bags for delivery. Our FBL volunteers pick up orders from the Pet Food Bank to take to the families on their respective delivery dates..
Pet Food Bank provides food to over 1,200 dogs and cats each month. This keeps the pets with the families instead of being turned out on the street to scavenge what they can find to eat on their own. These families treasure their pets. Many times they are the only companionship shut-ins have and provide much needed emotional support. They can also provide protection, as well as laughter when they play.
