This is one of two times each year when we hold a drive to raise funds to purchase food for our most vulnerable neighbors. Thanks to FoodBank Lakeside donor Mike Rogers for providing this campaign with a huge boost. He has offered $5,000 in memory of his late wife, Leslie to match donations made between now and July 31st. Deeply touched by Mike’s sweet and generous gesture, another donor has come forward with an additional $5,000, so that we can again match 1:1 all gifts up to $10,000.
You have been a generous partner of FoodBank Lakeside. Together, we have put basic food on the tables of thousands of households facing hardship due to serious illnesses, disabilities, or the loss of a breadwinner. Over the past six years, we have created and nurtured a food safety net that did not exist before and would not exist today without our collective efforts. We continue, without paid staff or facilities, to serve disadvantaged neighbors with the greatest needs, from Ajijic eastward to the indigenous villages.
Today, we are distributing food monthly to more than 500 households in nine Lakeside communities, funding weekday lunches for hundreds of children in San Pedro and Mezcala, and providing meals for 60 elderly and disabled persons who cannot cook for themselves in Ajijic.
Going forward, we will explore opportunities to partner with community organizations to help people experiencing food insecurity. Through these collaborations, we will also foster a network of support to advance the well-being of our Lakeside neighbors.
