VOLUNTEER
Since we’re ALL volunteers at FoodBank Lakeside, the Volunteers Team is the portal to all the activities that fulfill our mission of relieving food poverty in the Lakeside region. The Volunteers Team creates the new-volunteer infrastructure, such as the questionnaire you fill out to become a volunteer, the interview process that allows us to get to know you after you’ve applied, the Volunteer Handbook that helps you get to know the organization, and the database that maintains information on all volunteers.
Our team orients new volunteers to the FoodBank Lakeside culture and processes. Then, in collaboration with leaders of FBL’s functional teams, we place new volunteers in suitable roles – the places where their interests and skills meet the needs of the organization. Finally, we follow up to make sure that all our volunteers stay happy in their work and that their supervisors also stay happy with the work their team members are doing.
If you’d like to work with the Volunteers Team, it would be helpful for you (1) to have organizational skills, (2) to have some computer proficiency and (3) to be the kind of person who enjoys meeting new people.
Volunteer Values
FoodBank Lakeside came together in a time of uncertainty to reach out together and help our neighbors in need. In so doing, we formed a network of teams with the following hopes, anticipations, and expectations:
- To represent FBL with integrity and humility to the community at large
- To make our “families in need” and our donors our highest priority
- To be enthusiastic, gracious, open-minded, and respectful
- To believe in one another and act accordingly
- To be attentive when others are speaking
- To say what we do and do what we say
- To be on time and be prepared
- To be clear about what we say and expect from one another
- To take responsibility and perform accordingly
- To know our limits and be okay to ask for help
- To coach and mentor others to achieve the performance we desire
